Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is this website? A: This website is a place that holds a bunch of programs that we built, mainly software utilities. All these programs are freely available for download, directly from here. It also holds additional stuff - like for example a list of common windows dll files and their descriptions. In time we may add more stuff here, that may be useful to our visitors. Q:Who created these programs? A:We did - we are a handfull of coders that wrote these programs in some spare time that we had. Whenever we find additional time, we may build more of them, or add additional features to existing ones. Q:What platforms do they work on? A:Our programs work on various versions of Windows (sorry, no Mac or Linux developments yet). They all work on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and above. They also generally work on Windows 2000 versions as well. Depending on the product, some may even work in older operating systems like Windows NT, Windows 98 and Windows ME. A very small number may even run on Windows 95, although with limited functionality. Hope you're not still using something as old as Win95 though... Q:What about Windows Vista? A:Our programs are not yet tested on Windows Vista, but their internal requirements give us reasons to believe they should generally work without problems on Windows Vista as well. Q:How much do these programs cost? A:Absolutely nothing. They are free for download from here. Most of them require an initial activation, but this is also free of charge (details will be provided below). If you have paid for one of our programs currently listed on our website, then you have most likely been robbed. The only exception is that some PC magazines and Shareware CD/DVD publishers may release compilations that include our software, or bundle our software together with their magazine issues or CD/DVD releases, and they may charge you a price for the magazine and the included CD or DVD. But you do not have to pay for our programs explicitly. Also, remember that you can always download the most recent versions of our software directly from here. Q:So, are these programs freeware? Do they expire in time? A:Yes, they are full freeware. No, they do not expire in time, and we do not plan to add such expiration functions in the future, as we think they may be annoying for our users - and in any case we do not charge a dime for our programs. Q:You seem to have invested significant time and resources in writing these programs. How come you do not charge money for this? A:The website is self-supported. There is a small amount revenue coming from on-site advertising. Some of our visitors may be interested in ads displayed, and each time they click on them, we get a few cents. It's not much, but we get just enough to support the website - and that's all we need, since we are not aiming at making profit out of this. If we did, we would rather have been charging users for our software. And we don't. Q:I really liked your programs! A:We are very glad you do. We receive lots of messages, from users very happy to find software tools which are also free of charge, that are indeed useful for them. We thank to all of you for your kind words. Since we received quite a bunch of such happy messages, it makes us believe we are still on the right track, and it pushes us further to improve our software, and add more of them in the future. Q:I don't like your programs. A:It's your right; we don't say they are perfect. Some people are enchanted by them while others may dislike them. These are all freeware programs, so you can try them and then use them based on your liking. Once again, we do not claim our programs are perfect, nor that they are the best that one can find of a certain type. We try to improve, based on our skills and time that we have available. Q:Can I pass a copy of your programs to a friend? A:Sure you can, but make sure you pass them in the original zip format as you dowloaded it from our website. Even better, simply give them our website address, http://www.e-systems.ro/ so they can download what they want by themselves, and check other tools that they may feel to be of their liking. Q:Can I use your programs in a commercial environment? Can I use them at work? A:Yes, you can. In fact we encourage using our freewares in business environments. We like to help people with their work, and be productive, and improve their life standards. Other freeware writers have helped us as well and we are using their software, so we try to do something in return as well, up to our capabilities. Q:On how many computers can I install your freeware programs? A:Install them on as many as you like. Also keep a copy of your activation key(s) written down somewhere, just in case you may need them for the future. Q:Do these programs contain adware or spyware? A:ABSOLUTELY NOT. Our programs do not contain, and will never contain adware or spyware. Even so, remember you can and should always use spyware tools to check any new programs that you install, like SpyBot or Microsoft AntiSpyware for example. We encourage our users to use such protective software at all times. Q:How does the activation work? A:Whenever one of our programs (the ones that do require activation) are launched for the first time, a small activation window will pop up. To activate a program, you need to enter an activation code. All activation codes can be reached from any page on our website, the corresponding activation pages are linked from the right hand blue menu, directly near the program link (at the right hand edge of the blue menu where 'Act' link is displayed). Make sure you click on the right activation link so you do not end up getting a code for the wrong program, which obviously won't work. Once you reached the activation page, the code will be shown directly on the page. Its that simple. We do not even ask for your email address anymore, we simplified the procedure to make our users happy. Important notice: When entering the code, make sure you do not insert additional spaces at the beginning or the end of the code, as this may cause the activation to fail. Make sure you are using the right code for the right program. Most cases when a program 'refuses' to activate is due to mismatched code, which was intended for a different program instead. Q:Where is the activation code stored? A:Activation code is stored in a small .dat file, located directly in your program's install folder, right next to the main exe file of the program. Nothing secret about it. Q:Do I need to reactivate the program when reinstalling windows, or after using System Restore? A:If you have retained all the files belonging to the program, then in most cases you do not need to reactivate the program since the activation code is stored in the small .dat file that remains on your system in the program installation folder. Please note though - if the program you are using has an installer, you may need to reinstall it using the installer, if you have just reinstalled your Windows operating system, or used System Restore to restore your os to an earlier restore point, where our program was not yet installed. This is because installer based programs that we have may need to install additional runtime files that are lost during a Windows reinstall. Q:How do I install your programs? A:Our programs come in two flavors - with or without installer. The ones with installer, will show an installation wizard when launched for the first time. Use the wizard to complete the installation. The ones that do not have an installer, are pretty much self-containing and will simply work when clicked on the main executable (.exe file). Try to remember where you have placed them for the future. Q:Do I need to install additional runtimes? A:In most cases, VB6 runtimes are required as a prerequisite to run our programs. However, most users may not need to install these runtimes; Windows XP and above, usually come with VB6 runtimes included. The runtimes are always needed on Win2000 and older operating systems. They may however be needed on Windows XP as well, if by chance they are corrupted or missing from your Windows installation, for whatever reason. Q:How do I uninstall a program? A:There are two answers, depending on the type of product that you are using: 1.If you have downloaded one of our programs that features an installer, first of all close the program, then go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs. Select the program from the list and then click on Remove to uninstall it. If you are unsure if the program has an installer, go there anyway (Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs) and check the list to see if the program can be found and uninstall it from there, if you can find it. 2.Most of our programs are self contained, and do not require or feature an installer/uninstaller. For such programs, uninstallation is quite simple but some users may not figure out this, so here we explain it. Basically all you need in this case is to remove the autorun setting and delete the files belonging to the program. Here is how to do it: - first of all, locate the folder where you have unzipped the files belonging to our program. - start the program once for the last time, then uncheck the 'Autorun at Startup' checkbox option, if available. - close the program. - simply delete the files belonging to our program. (Note: If you have a lot of files messed in the same folder, and no longer know which of them belong to our program, deleting the main executable (.exe) file would be enough for now, which you can identify by name that will be very similar to program's name. Any remaining files will usually be very small in size and will likely not count that much towards your free disk space. Alternatively, you can redownload the program from our website, and open the zipfile to see what files were in there.) Q:I sent you guys an email and got no response. A:We are sorry for this, but we do have extremely limited time available at our disposal, that we try using mostly to enhance our programs as possible - and therefore we are unable to respond to most emails, nor can we really provide support for our freeware products. Please understand that we are getting a high rate, of hundreds or thousands of downloads per day - and we also receive a lot of emails, so unfortunately we may not be able to respond to most of them. Q:I requested a new feature, and yet I do not see it implemented. A:We are aware that several improvements can be made to virtually any of our programs, and pay attention to what our users are suggesting. Please understand though that this website and programs here are part of a spare time project, rather than the full time job for us. Unfortunately we are very busy with our regular work and life, so the amount of time available for further development is limited. Despite this fact, please rest assured that we are taking all new feature suggestions into consideration, and that we are going to implement them as soon as we get a chance to. |
